Fretting Over The Past - Counseling Can Help

Depression can be debilitating. It can also come out of nowhere, or it can result from tragic or difficult circumstances like loss, life transitions and the everyday stresses of living in a complicated world.

Depressive symptoms can include loss of energy, low self-esteem, excessive sleep, anger, hopelessness, fixating on the past, changes in appetite and/or feelings of guilt among others.

Depression can creep up on us slowly without notice, or can hit us like a ton of bricks one day. Depression can be different for everyone. It can be short-lived, or long-lasting.

The good news is depression is treatable.

Engaging in counseling can help reduce the symptoms commonly associated with depression. But, patience, practice and perseverance are key. Unlike going to a medical doctor who seeks to find an “answer” quickly, therapy is a process that can take time and the journey often comes with ups and downs along the way. The long-term trajectory, however, is a positive curve toward a more fulfilling, satisfying and authentic existence.

If you are taking anti-depressant medication, adding therapy to your treatment protocol can speed up progress in most cases.
