My own therapeutic journey opened up a world of possibilities and healing for me, and I believe its potential can do the same for you. Through therapy, I was able to better understand the choices I was making and the behaviors I was exhibiting. This allowed me to connect my past with the present and move toward a more satisfying future.
I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) with a Masters degree in Counseling & Educational Psychology from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. NMSU's counseling program is accredited through CACREP, an independent body dedicated to counseling excellence.
I also earned a Masters degree in Comparative Sociology from Florida International University in Miami. My sociological background and training affords me the tools to help people understand how society also impacts our behavior and how to navigate the cumbersome systems that often feel so constraining and limiting.
I have been counseling in Las Cruces for 15 years, and I have been teaching community college courses for 25 years.
I use the foundations of counseling and sociology to help bring about “enhanced well-being through greater self-awareness”.
As a client, you are the center of our therapeutic work together, and I am here to help you discover the best pathway toward a more satisfying, mindful and authentic life. I look forward to meeting with you soon.
I believe in the dignity and sanctity of each human being. We all suffer at some point in our lives and deserve respect and understanding as we journey toward healing and self-discovery. While I may not have gone through what you are personally experiencing or share the same identities, I strive to hear you, to understand you and to help you in whatever ways I can.
I employ a client-centered approach as developed by renowned psychologist Carl Rogers. Dr. Rogers believed that with unconditional positive regard from therapist to client, clients could begin to unravel the distress in their minds and therefore evolve into their true selves.
To help in reducing the costs of mental health care for clients, I accept a number of major insurance plans including the following: Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Presbyterian, United Healthcare, Molina Healthcare, and plans administered through Magellan.
I am a New Mexico Medicaid provider as well as a straight Medicare provider. I am unable to accept Tricare at this time.
For those without insurance, or who would prefer not to utilize their insurance for behavioral health, I can offer a sliding fee scale to help with costs.
